Swinton Beer Festival 2024

We are raising funds to help build a new Community Hall in Swinton. So far, we have raised almost 70% of what we need and so we hope this festival will go some way to getting us closer to our target.

The Festival The festival opens on Thursday 4th July to the public from 5pm. However we are having a preview session for Sponsors and Guests and we would like to invite CAMRA members across South Yorkshire to come along. It would be free entry to CAMRA members provided they should a valid CAMRA card and it starts at 2pm. This session is also open to the trade so if you know of any brewery, beer related business or pub in the Rotherham area who might like to come along please email yogibarney@hotmail.com.

The festival is open to the public fully from 5pm on the Thursday (still free for CAMRA members). If a member cannot come on Thursday, they will be able to get in on our Friday sessions 11.30- 16.30 and 1700-2200 for £3 (instead of £5). Details can be found on the attached poster. No advance tickets are being sold on Saturday as a Town Fayre is also being held so we are just asking for £2 donations for entry.

Volunteers Whilst we have number of volunteers who come to church we are short of a few experienced volunteers and we would be grateful if any experienced CAMRA member could help us and even show some who have never done it before how it is done. We are looking for volunteers again across the three days and even if someone can only do a few hours it would be gratefully appreciated. We are looking for volunteers who can help any time shown below Thursday 4th 1pm to 10pm Friday 5th 1100am to 10pm Saturday 11am to 6pm.

On Saturday evening after the festival has closed there is a small take down session and afterwards everyone who has volunteered is welcome to stay behind for a few closing drinks and there will be some food put on as a thank you.

Finding Us St Margaret's Church is on Church Street in Swinton, a short walk from the Ring O'Bells pub. At the bottom of the church drive are bus stops on the following bus routes: 72 Chapeltown - Tankersley - Hoyland - Wath - Swinton 218/218a Barnsley - Darfield - Goldthorpe - Manvers - Mexborough - Swinton - Kilnhurst - Rawmarsh - Rotherham 221 Doncaster - Warmsworth - Conisbrough - Mexborough - Swinton - Rawmarsh - Rotherham

We can also be reached via slightly longer walk from the bus stops on Golden Smithies Lane or Rockingham Road on the 22X Barnsley-Rotherham service.

Swinton is also well served by Northern trains from Sheffield to either Leeds or Doncaster via Swinton so many may take advantage of travelling via Meadowhall. The church being about a 15-20 minute walk but the 72, 218/A and 221 all go by the railway station if anyone doesn't fancy the walk up the hill to the church but at least when going home the station is pretty much downhill from the church.
