DUP manifesto: VAT cut would boost NI pubs, say CAMRA

Release date: June 24, 2024

Responding to the publication of the Democratic Unionist Party’s General Election manifesto, CAMRA Chairman Nik Antona said:

“Pubgoers will welcome the commitment in the DUP Manifesto to campaign for a cut in the rate of VAT for hospitality businesses across the UK to help them compete with the lower VAT rate in the Republic of Ireland.

“This would be a positive step to help local pubs and breweries that are facing difficult trading conditions. As well as cutting VAT for the beer and pubs sector, CAMRA NI would like to see support from all parties in the next UK Parliament for cutting duty on beer and cider served in pubs and social clubs, fairer access to market for local breweries and cider producers, as well as support from local MPs for modernising NI’s outdated licensing laws to improve choice of pubs, taprooms, beers and ciders for consumers.”
