Early 19th-century market place pub with two rooms divided by a central bar and a covered outside area to the rear. This former Batemans pub, now operated by Pub People Company and refurbished March 2024, has regained its status as a proper ale pub after past disappointments, with usually six cask ales and a Lilleys cider available. Regular entertainment includes Wednesday American Folk, Thursday Open Mic, Friday Live Acts, Saturday Karaoke Disco and Sunday Quiz. Selected cask ales £3 a pint on Mondays, double Camra discount on Tuesdays.
Historic Interest
Formerly used as accommodation for visiting theatre troupes and as a meeting place for Druids and Oddfellows; it has also witnessed at least one murder in its time.
