Lively Victorian, community-oriented free-house which has been under the ownership of the same family for over 30 years.
The L-shaped drinking area has arches linking the busy public bar with a marginally quieter lounge and another small lounge beyond. Features include an unusual porch, bar tops inlaid with around 6,500 old pennies, and a red telephone box (with working telephone) in public bar.
No meals at present, but planned for late 2021 after a refurbishment.
Close to the Moat Ground, home of Gresley Rovers FC.
Historic Interest
Privately built in 1870, possibly on the site of an earlier (16th-century?) inn, and reputedly one of the last inns to incorporate stables. It was sold to Bass in 1889 who substantially rebuilt the pub shortly afterwards (plans submitted 1896, re-opened 1900). It remained part of the Bass estate until late 1989 when it was bought privately by the current licensee’s late mother and her partner.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers and 0 regular beers.
