Traditional road-house type pub with an impressive frontage and located close to the historic village of Saltaire. Sensitively refurbished in 2014, it retains a comfortable, homely feel. Two regular real ales, and up to three guest ales are available. Sports matches are shown on several tv screens. There is a Monday night quiz, starting at 8pm, and live entertainment on Saturday evenings. Popular poker games are held. A small Edwardian smoke room merits a place in CAMRA's Yorkshire's Real Heritage Pubs and is where activity groups, including writers, artists and anglers, can meet. the beers gardens to the front and side of the building are popular in good weather. The pub is dog friendly. Open from 12.00pm on bank holidays.

Suburban Edwardian pub whose smoke room, separated-off just beyond an open staircase, is the last surviving complete room in an interior which once had six. This excellent little room boasts high quality fitted seating with carved armrests and has its original etched door and window glass (the fireplace is more recent). Elsewhere, despite all the opening-up, the pub’s rich array of cut and etched windows and fitted seating are very worthwhile reminders of its former splendour.

Judging for the competition takes around a year, starting with individual nominations from CAMRA members and tasting panel nominations, leading to a series of rigorous regional heats adhering to a strict blind tasting policy.
