A town centre circuit pub that was a leading coaching inn dating from 1727, named after Sir Thomas Wentworth Earl of Strafford, when the address was Market Place, rebuilt 1876 & in 1980s.
Wakefield Rotary Club, the 46th such in the British Isles, was founded here in 1921.The inaugural meeting of Wakefield Historical Society was here in 1924.
