Sometimes called the "Top" White Lion, this Grade 2 Listed building is larger than it looks from the outside. It is very much a fairly staid and traditional locals' pub with an emphasis on pub games. Pool, darts and dominoes are available in the large public bar to the rear. A comfortable lounge is served from the central bar. Unusually, the public bar has two dart boards. This may well be to accommodate women and men's darts teams. It is hoped that women are careful when visiting the toilet as the "Ladies" sign confusingly suggests going through the front door! The pub's ambience may arise because the tenancy has been in the same family since 1966! It was once a part of the extensive local estate of the Shrewsbury & Wem Brewery, which may explain the large Greenall’s sign still outside! And during that era, in 1988 the pub achieved its single entry in the Good Beer Guide!
Discontinued real ale following the Covid lockdowns.
