On the main road into Godalming on the corner of Hare Lane, this pub has been in operation for some 300 years and is renowned for its live music. In 2014 the pub underwent a considerable refurbishment, happily without detriment to its character. It remains one large bar with distinct areas: the bar itself and a lounge-type area which leads to the part where musicians usually perform. Doors at the back lead to a patio area with a large awning to protect smokers, thence to a good-sized garden with canopied seating. A glass panel exposes the workings of the hand pumps. Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside, as are families. A long-standing feature of the Three Lions is live music, with a band or soloist/duet performing every Saturday and alternate Sundays. There are also regular open mic sessions. A quiz is held every other Wednesday.
Historic Interest
There has been a pub on this site for 300 years & most of the building is at least as old as that. On the main road into Godalming on the corner of Hare Lane, this pub has been in operation for some 300 years, with records going back to at least 1723. In 1891 it passed to Lascelles Tickner of Guildford, which was taken over by Friary, Holroyd and Healy’s (also of Guildford) in the 1920’s. Via further mergers ownership passed to Ind Coope, thence to Allied Lyons and Carlsberg Tetley. However a few years ago it was acquired by Shepherd Neame of Faversham. A more detailed history can be found on the website.
