Village pub situated a short distance from the M1 and Broxtowe estate. Despite its proximity to large numbers of houses, it retains very much a village feel with many separate areas catering for drinkers and diners. A front green opens up the pub in warmer weather while a cosy feel greets inside at the top bar during winter. A slightly sunken area at the back of the pub is used for dining. The rear garden features a play area.

Historic Interest

The Broad Oak is named after a once famous tree towards the north of Clipston Park in Sherwood Forest, which Whites Directory of 1832 records as having a circumference of 27.5 feet. The Broad Oak has an entry on Nottinghamshire County Council's Historic Environment Record (HER) No. M10008 and lies within Broxtowe Borough Council's Strelley Conservation Area. In addition, it is protected by an Article 4 Direction put in place by the Secretary of State for the Environment on the 6th of October 1981 to protect the unique character of Strelley after the death of Miss E.M. Edge in 1978. Miss Edge was the last surviving member of the family who had held and managed the estate since 1651, when it was aquired by Nottinghamshire lawyer Ralph Edge. Broxtowe Borough Council's Article 4 document from 1981 states that the Broad Oak was owned by Hardy's & Hanson's Limited and that the then tenant was a Mr E. Humphries. It describes it as being "Red brick and pantile inn built in two main stages with a complex history of change to the rear. Modern porch (1966). Sympathetic replacement windows to all elevations." but noted that the modern shutters then in place were "out of character and should not be renewed." The Alehouse Recognizances for Broxtowe Hundred of 1823 record the Broad Oak being run by licensed victualler John Dodsley (Nottinghamshire County Archives C/QD/LV/4/3/135).

As at November 2017, the freehold (NT442610) for the Broad Oak Inn was held by Greene King Retailing Limited (Reg. No. 5265451).
