Re-opened 28/4/2023 as Amp, primarily a music venue. The opened-out interior from its Doctor Feelgood era continues. Outside is a balcony seating area that overlooks the historic Market Hall and St Marys chuch.

Historic Interest

Opening history: Re-opened as Doctor Feelgood on 21/5/2021. Joe Patten of nearby Cracked Actor acquired this to become an American-themed diner styled as Doctor Feelgood. As it was originally two shop units, that layout had been continued somewhat. It featured a very rustic, canteen or refectory style interior. The left hand side had high tables along one wall, these fronted the bar. Meanwhile on the right side were some lower tables that were overlooked by a stage area. Occasional live music features, as did two pinball machines. Closed 3/4/2023 with uncertain future as the owner cited rising costs and fewer people going out meaning the venue was now unviable. Remedy Bar & Brewhouse, a new bar opened 18/12/2015 when owners Simon Wells and Nicholas Moore, along with brewing adviser Mike Hitchen (one-time head brewer at the former Three Rivers Brewery, Reddish) wanted somewhere to both showcase their pub brewery range and also offer short one-day brewing courses. Closed with financial problems 18/12/2020. A simple but inspired conversion of two former shop units in 2015 into an atmospheric steampunk-style bar in the town’s Market Place. Overlooking the historic Market Hall, with views of historic St Mary’s Church. The bar lay to the rear of the building but part of the former dividing wall between the units remained in situ to break up the quite large interior and so prevent everything being that bit too open-plan. The decor saw much exposed conduits, pipes and ducts, mix-and-match furniture, and bare light bulbs. The floor around the bar had an eye-catching mosaic made of one penny coins. The pristine in-house brewing equipment was sited behind a glazed wall to the left. There were six cask beers available - the 200 litre on-site brewery occasionally supplying two, the remaining four being changing guest beers. There were a couple of keg beers – Hofbrauhaus Helles from Munich and Founders All Day IPA from the USA. There was also a small selection of bottled beers. Coffee was also available alongside food (when available) in the form of British, German and American inspired dishes. In keeping with the Market Place tradition there was occasional live entertainment on Thu-Sat, too. Remedy closed for good 18/12/2020.
