The smart but low-key frontage belies a warm and welcoming 1652 coaching Inn with stabling for 15 horses. A Grade 2 listed building it was leased from Beaufort estate in 1745 for 1000 years at 6d per year! The style and comfort gradually increase as you progress around the central counter from the hop strewn games/public bar to the excellent restaurant, where food is served from 1200-1430 & 1800-2130. The well-maintained walled garden includes a petanque pitch and smokers' pavilion. CAMRA Cirencester sub-branch Pub of the Year 2011. Recently taken over by Butcombe Brewery (2023)
