Historic building, reputed to be the Ship in Dickens' Great Expectations. Located on the Saxon Shore Way, it is popular with walkers and sea anglers. There is an outside drinking area on the river wall with views of the river Thames. Inside there are pictures with a nautical theme. One varying real ale, often from Iron Pier, is available. Advisable to book for the popular Sunday lunches. Occasional themed food nights: Wednesday steak, Friday fish. Occasional events include cabaret nights.
The pub may close early if quiet.
