The Luney Club and charity that began in the 1950s in the Anchor, Bathside to try and raise money for the elderly of Bathside Bay for an annual social dinner and Christmas gift, and these days still raise money to help the elderly of Bathside Bay, Harwich. In order to have us a base for their fund raising after the Anchor was demolished they took over the lease of the old Royal British Legion Hall in Barrack Lane and renamed it the Luney Social Club. The hall is hired out to different organisations during the week but is open to the public on Tuesday evening for bingo, Friday evenings 7.00 to 11.00 and Sunday lunchtime 11.00 to 4.00pm. They operate under a pub licence and so no membership is required. They do not have real ale at the moment but their bar manager is an avid CAMRA member so watch this space.
