Busy and popular village pub, many CAMRA awards. Accredited for beer quality 2024

Popular village pub, renowned for its excellent real ales, real cider, pork pies and especially the generously filled plated cobs with salad for which people travel from miles away.

A central doorway leads a snug on the left and the bar to the right which has hardly changed, with its original 1920's furniture and horse racing memorabilia. See the website for its history.

The renowned well-filled cobs draw in customers from the surrounding towns, adding to its appeal, especially at lunchtimes and weekends.

Outside is mainly covered but there are areas for enjoying a pint and a cob in the sunshine.

Easily reached from the nearby canal by footpath, using the magnificent restored iron bridge over the Stour, this gem is well worth visiting.

It has won many local CAMRA awards, most recently Silver Pub of the Year 2023, for its consistently presented top quality beers and friendly community atmosphere.

Level access is from the car park into the rear access.

On the car park side is an off-sales tiny room with just one table. At the top of the front door steps is a tiny area with a counter, popular with locals. The excellent intact snug on the left has Victorian fixed seating and baffles either side of the door; the fireplace looks like a modern replacement. The main bar on the right was formerly two small rooms and retains some old fixed seating and a baffle but the bar fittings are modern. The passage to the toilets at the rear has a hatch for service. Famous for its well-filled cobs.
