Dating from the late 19th century, this large town centre pub, which has had a recent redecoration, was originally a hotel. In the late 1960s it was renamed The Viking till Wetherspoons took it over and changed it back to its original name. It is now owned by Greene King and serving Greene King ales, although they can sell a local beer .( Old Speckled Hen on at last visit in June 23) Upstairs can be found a pool table and a dart board. . 5 minutes walk to Jarrow bus station and Metro station.
