Ancient local and welcoming public house. Accredited for beer quality 2024

Up a steep hill from the town centre, this friendly ancient pub is worth the climb, or alternatively there's limited parking nearby.

The attractive black and white half-timbered building, dating from 1462, is the oldest pub in Bewdley and is very nearly opposite the original old Town Hall. It has four rooms served from a single bar. There's an open fire in winter, and an ancient wooden beamed interior.

Four or five very well-presented beers from local breweries, cobs and pork pies are available. Hot meals are available on Sunday lunctimes, Wednesday and Saturday evenings and, from Easter, the garden kitchen.

At the back is a pleasant beer garden with views over the town, and a partly enclosed lounge area with high tables in adapted ancient out-buildings.

It's a well-supported friendly community pub serving up to five beers from local and regional breweries and a selection of Belgian bottled and craft canned beers. Cider is from Severn Cider in Gloucestershire. Cobs and delicious local Wyre Pies are always available. Bar skittles, bagatelle and a selection of board games are available.

Folk music and song sessions are hosted every 2nd Wednesday of the month in the bar, and on Sunday evenings there's a quiz at 8pm.

Local CAMRA Pub of the Autumn 2021 was won for its friendly community atmosphere and excellent beers and cider.

A little gem of a pub.

Steps into the pub, step to WC (not adapted) and rear bar. The pub is on a steep hill and best accessed from above for people with disability.

Cycles can be parked at the rear via the left hand passageway. If locked, ask at the bar.

Historic Interest

Heart of the building dates from 1462 and at that time it was in the centre of the historic centre of Bewdley.
