Reopened at 5PM on the 9th December 2023 after being closed for almost a year during which there has been a refurb.

Traditionally constructed former Toll House containing Cotswolds stone and pitched stone slate roof. Note that the door/porch fronting the road is not in use. Access is from the car park to the rear of the premises.

You as you approach the premises from the car park there is the marquee to your right and a garden room to your left. then the patio complete with steel open fire which is sure to make for a cosy glow on a chill evening. As you enter the pub the room opens out into a one long area with the bar in in the middle biased to one end. There is a real fire at each end with the one nearest the door in regular use and the other in occasional use on the coldest night. Unashamedly food orientated you are best located inside near the door or on the patio outside as a casual drinker the bulk of the tables being orientated to diners.

The toilets are somewhat interesting in not having a hand drier or paper towels rather rolled dry flannels that you use and discard in the wash box (see photos)

Opening & food times correct as of 1st March, 2024.

Historic Interest

Grade II Listed building

Bisley History Society has researched the unusual name and has determined that it relates to a character called Foston and a tollgate made of ash. The building was originally a toll house. The story goes that Foston disliked paying tolls and instead caused the horse he was riding to jump over the gate and gallop off. The pub sign depicts this incident. There is no record indicating any repercussions.
