Re-opened in July 2022, after being closed for a number of years, by the grandson of the previous licencees who ran it from 1952 to 1991.

Traditional pub just outside the city centre, with an attractive Edwardian facade proclaiming that it serves "Bass Only", believed to be unique in the county of Staffordshire. The pub has been refurnished to an immaculate standard - there is a main bar area, with rooms either side plus a patio area. Up to 4 hand pulls with yes, Bass on regular the other 3 being guests with usually a local beer on, a drinking area that curves around the bar. Smoking area at the back, over-looking the majestic Potteries Way.

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: II

A lovely little pub, built in 1912 and carefully restored in 2004. You are greeted by a superb green-tiled frontage celebrating Bass, then you find more tiles in both the entrance lobbies. The bar counter with fluted pilasters is superior Edwardian work, as is the delicate mirrored bar-back whose superstructure is supported on elaborately turned posts surmounted by miniature acroteria. The snug, rear left, is a conversion from residential accommodation. Through an arch, the rear right-hand room has old fixed upholstered seating with bell pushes. Some of the original glass has been re-located.

General information about historic pub interiors

A lovely little pub built in 1912. The superb green-tiled frontage proclaims 'Bass Only' and incorporates red Bass triangles. There are tiles in the entrance lobbies behind the doors. The bar counter with fluted pilasters and the delicate mirrored bar-back (complete with drawers) are good original Edwardian work. The bar back is a wooden superstructure supported on elaborately turned posts surmounted by miniature acroteria (architectural ornamentation). The snug rear-left was originally private accommodation. The rear right-hand room, through an arch, retains fixed upholstered seating with bell-pushes. Some original glass has been re-sited. The pub was carefully restored and reopened in March 2004.
