Historic Interest
Originally a late Victorian, c1870 pub. Prior to that, the site was a hay meadow. Rebuilt in 1930's, for a housing estate that never materialised, as the Cheshire Cheese Hotel a classic example of a roadside pub with accommodation. On 28th July 1940 the eastern boundary wall was damaged by a German bomb. Onetime a large Greenall Whitley roadside pub. When Greenall's sold their entire pub estate, the Cheshire Cheese became part of a pubco. For a while the pub was known as "Koconut Grove" serving real ales and Indian food, but in July 2014, reverted to its original name of Cheshire Cheese. Sold on by Spirit to Hickory Smokehouse Limited.
