Situated next to an unusual red-brick Victorian clock tower, erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Inside, the pub has a traditional bar and a separate restaurant; the menu includes vegetarian and gluten-free options. Outside, there are pleasant seating areas and children's play facilities adjacent to a large skittle alley. The car park is small but on-road parking is available. Guest ale news is posted weekly on Facebook. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Judging for the competition takes around a year, starting with individual nominations from CAMRA members and tasting panel nominations, leading to a series of rigorous regional heats adhering to a strict blind tasting policy.
