This is a club, which means that the bar may be only open to members.
Built in 1664 as the George and Dragon inn, ale was brewed on the site in 1777 later becoming the brewery managers house. After a time as the Conservative Club, it is now the Pateley Club. The club is accessed off the town's main street; as you enter a snooker table is in front of you with upholstered seats around the edge of the room, and there are a few stairs up to the bar where usually one cask ale is served.
Annual membership is £12, monthly membership is £2, and non-members can be signed in once per month by a member. Unaccompanied non-members may be allowed to purchase a drink upon making a cash donation to charity.
