Red Lion, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell

Brightwell Street, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, OX10 0RT (Directions)
Improve This Listing

The Red Lion is a traditional half-timbered thatched inn dating from the 16th century situated in a quiet village a short distance south from the A4130 between Didcot and Wallingford. The comfortable bar features wood beams, oak flooring and exposed brick inglenook fireplace with log-burner, and leads to the restaurant area off to one side.

The south-facing courtyard garden, which was renovated and repaved in spring 2024, is a sun-trap in the summer months.

In 2023 a thatched lion was added to the eastern end of the roof ridge as part of a partial replacement of the thatch.

The beers are usually from local breweries, including Amwell Springs, Loddon and Loose Cannon, and a good-quality seasonal menu is served. Takeaway meals continue to be offered at least 1 day a week.
