Dating from 1724, this small, cosy, beamed pub is situated on the edge of a pleasant village. Local country walks and the long Weardale Way pass nearby. Walkers are welcome in the bar - just make sure your boots are clean - and well-behaved dogs are also permitted. Comfortable accommodation makes the pub a great base for visiting the city and other attractions in the area.
Reopened under new management after lengthy closure November 2021. After another closure in 2024, reopened June 2024, initially without food.
