In the centre of a housing estate next to Western Park, this pub was built by Everards in 1977-1978; later sold to Banks's. A surprisingly large interior: bar-lounge at the front; separate larger bar at the back with music, darts and two pool tables. The 162 bus stop is adjacent.

Judging for the competition takes around a year, starting with individual nominations from CAMRA members and tasting panel nominations, leading to a series of rigorous regional heats adhering to a strict blind tasting policy.
