A 56-bedroom hotel (some with four-poster beds), it was built in 1881 in Scottish Baronial style by William Young, a marine underwriter with Lloyds of London, and is set in 35 acres of countryside. The small, mainly wood lined bar, opens at 7am, but it is not licenced until 10am. Food from the 1881 restaurant is available in the bar during restaurant hours.
