This pub can be found on the north bank of the River Wear practically underneath the Queen Alexandra Bridge. The original building is pre WW1 and was rebuilt from being derelict in the 1980's. Notable for large murals of former Sunderland players Jimmy Montgomery and Kevin Phillips. Also note the blue plaque above the Wear Street sign, commemorating the birthplace of the inventor of the hand grenade.
