Good Beer Guide

Vat & Fiddle, Nottingham: Central

Improve This Listing

The Vat and Fiddle is Castle Rock Brewery’s beloved brewery tap. Thirteen cask beers greet you on entering the Vat, showcasing the largest available range of Castle Rock beers. They are joined by guest beers from local and national breweries, and an award-winning assortment of ciders. You’ll also find a great selection of 6 craft keg lines, bottles and cans, alongside a full menu of wines, spirits and soft drinks. This 1930s art deco-style building sits beneath the iconic blue tower of Castle Rock Brewery. It is comprised of multiple cosy areas with the adjoining Golding’s Room and Visitors’ Centre. To the rear of the pub, a large beer garden spills into the brewery yard. It’s the perfect spot to catch some afternoon rays and enjoy the freshest possible pint.

Between the Vat and the brewery is the Old Cold Store, an industrial event space with a private bar.

Historic Interest

An Art Deco pub built in 1937 as the Grove Tavern on the site of an earlier pub of the same name. This establishment has had a number of name changes from the Miami Bar to Ziggy's Bar (1988), the Grove Tavern (again), Tom Hoskin's (1992) before becoming the Vat and Fiddle. The current name a cheeky reference to the nearby offices of HM Revenue and Customs (Whitworth 2010). Formerly a Whitbread tied house. The Goldings Room is named after the late Spyke Golding, a popular Nottingham CAMRA activist who died in October 2010. The Vat & Fiddle has an entry on the Nottinghan Local Heritage List as Heritage Asset HA1007. [Nottingham City Council; Bridge Ward / Nottingham South Parliamentary Constituency]
