Characterful 1800s built pub, in a remote location near the windmill at Thelnetham, the pub is operated by iFarm and was re-opened after obtaining a £300,000 grant from the governments Community Ownership Fund topped up by generous donations from the local community. Volunteers run the pub and it has four hand pumps dispensing cask beers from local and national breweries and occasionally one from the owners Bartram Brewery.
Plans include a new kitchen (food not currently served), installing a small brewery and providing accommodation as the pub is near local fens and there are many good walks in the locality.
Community Owned
Members of community farm group Ikigai Farm Ltd (a Community Benefit Society) leased the empty village pub in 2021 after mounting a campaign to save it from being lost. The community group then campaigned to purchase the pub, launched a share scheme, and in Feb 2024 paid the deposit and expects to have completed the transaction and all the conveyancing by Thursday, February 29 2024. They also need to raise additional funds to renovate the premises.
