An old pub hidden behind the main shopping street on what was once a pack horse route and early turnpike road. The interior, with stone flagstones and floorboards, has been partly opened-out, although it retains the feel of separate rooms. Outside, there's a beer garden, precariously sited above the River Calder, but with pleasant views. A recent change in ownership has seen a back-to-basics approach, with a larger selection of real ales. The four changing beers include usually includes a dark beer.
Cash payment is preferred. Card users can obtain cash-back if paying for subsequent drinks.
