Ferry Tavern, Penketh

Lying between the River Mersey and the St Helens Canal, the Ferry Tavern was first licensed in 1762. A single bar serves eight rotating guest ales from all over the country. The bar also stocks over 100 whiskies from around the world. Homemade pies available at all times. Open all day Bank Holiday Mondays. Four beer festivals are held throughout the year, each offering 20 beers. Additionally, the Ferry Tavern is famous for its annual music festival “Glastonferry”. This event is held in July and features local bands and regionally well known tribute acts. To the right of the bar, a quiet lounge features photographs and information about the pub's 250 year history, mostly compiled by present licensee Andy. With the Transpennine Trail nearby, it is a popular stop-off for walkers and cyclists.The pub clocked up 25 years continuously in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide with the 2023 edition, whilst being a former Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year and Community Pub of the Year winner.
