**The pub suffered a major fire in the early hours of Tuesday October 31st , so it looks like it will remain closed for some time **
This is a well appointed conversion from the old Crusader, in the 'traditional' ex Jarrow Brewery style, with an emphasis on wooden panelling, carpets, vintage photographs of the area including the shipyards, pits, pubs and street scenes. The pub was renamed Albion Gin & Ale House in early 2020, and in 2022, Gin & Ale House. and serves up to four ales. Near the entrance is a cask ale blackboard which includes a special offered at a discount .every day
Thursday is buskers night from 7.30pm. and there is a quiz on Sundays.
In July 2022 the pub was renamed again, to Gin & Ale House
Take time to examine the ornate tiling on the outside of the building. About 10 minutes walk to Bus and Metro Station.
Historic Interest
The Gin & Ale house was originally called The Albion Inn and opened in 1859. It later became The Albion Hotel and was owned by the Vaux Brewery. In the 1970's it was known as The Albion and then the name was changed again, this time to The Jarrow Crusaders by Vaux after the famous march from Jarrow in 1936. It was taken over by Jess McConnell in 2014 and became part of the now defunct Jarrow Brewery and was renamed McConnell’s Gin and Ale House.
