Busy country pub and mainly a restaurant with a number of drinking and dining areas served from the main bar. It has open fires and rustic decor. The front room is the lounge bar whilst the large dining area extends into the conservatory.
For diners, there is a renowned carvery and extensive menu, and children are allowed in the dining areas. The carvery is served in four sittings on Sundays, booking is essential and is advised for other busy times. Being mainly a restaurant, beer prices are above average for the area.

Judging for the competition takes around a year, starting with individual nominations from CAMRA members and tasting panel nominations, leading to a series of rigorous regional heats adhering to a strict blind tasting policy.
