Improve This Listing

Originally a lively old smugglers' and fishermen's pub, it is now a popular watering hole and dining venue with village residents and summer tourists. The Plume has two beamed bars and a snug with a part-circle bar, and a dining room upstairs. The main bar is L-shaped in a room with ample seating. It is a sociable centre of village life, having a quiz team and even an investment club, and participates in the annual August Regatta and New Year's Day fireworks. The food is varied, locally sourced and home cooked with occasional themed events. Breakfast is served from 09.00 to 11.30. A fourth beer appears from time to time, usually a seasonal brew from St Austell Brewery. Five ciders are served from bag-in-box by gravity. Car parking is in the public facility nearby. Accommodation is in 5 ensuite rooms.

Listed status: Not listed

Included here for the Old Bar at the rear, from where you can view both the old servery and the split door of the Cellar Bar with its painted glass windows above and naive painting below. The servery itself has a flagstone floor; in the right corner is an old bar-back with a pewter top to the middle part, old mirrors and brass-edged shelves held up by plain columns. Also in this area are a beam and plank ceiling, three small cupboards and a window seat – note the old Worthington illuminated sign on the bar-back. The Cellar Bar is to the left of the main room (which has modern fittings).

General information about historic pub interiors

The main front bar has a newish counter, beam and plank ceiling, and a small food order counter near oldish stone fireplace at the far end. To the left of the main bar is a door to ‘Cellar Bar’, a very small room conversion of old cellar with stone walls, a table in old fireplace, with a split door to the servery that has painted glass panels in the top part and a painting on the lower door. At the rear is a separate small bar with panelled walls, a bar counter that looks to be from the 1930s but two sections to left are later and block a former doorway and old bench seating.

The servery has a flagstone floor and in the right corner is an old bar back with a pewter top to the middle part, old mirrored with brass edged shelves held up by plain columns, beam and plank ceiling, three small cupboards on the left, window seat with cushion – note the old ‘Worthington’ illuminated sign on the bar back. Park in public car park nearby.
