The Red Lion dates back to the 15th century, and now incorporates original stables and old cottages. The interior feels cosy, with low beams, log fires and authentic décor. The pub has won awards for its home-cooked, locally-sourced food, which often includes game and seafood, and the home-made puddings are popular. Vice Admiral Lancelot Holland lived in the village, and was lost when HMS Hood was sunk by the Bismarck. St John's church, a mile northeast, contains a memorial to that ill-fated ship and her crew. Accommodation is offered above the pub.
