Characterful, thatched building in centre of village with many old beams & huge inglenook fireplace. Outside drinking area & extensive, locally produced menu. Occasional erratic opening hours.

Historic Interest

The core of the building dates from the 15th century, with several subsequent extensions & alterations. 1851 census information is thought to refer to this pub, but it needs to be confirmed. A report in the Bury & Norwich Post** on Mar-24 in 1863 when George Nickerson was landlord of a "beer house at Chapel Corner" stated that: "James Day was charged with setting fire to a wheat stack at Barningham. He claimed he spent the night at Nickersons beerhouse at Chapel Corner. George Nickerson stated that Day left his at 8.45pm. John Goodchild landlord of the Windmill at Market Weston also stated that Day was at his house from 10pm to just before 11pm. Both statements contradicting Day's alibi. Day was found guilty & received 8 years penal servitude." Photographs of this pub and more historical information about it can be found at suffolk.camra.org.uk/pub/28
