Attractive old red sandstone pub overlooking the picture-book village green on the Pennine Way with relaxing views of the fells from the garden. Small bar with old black range, snug with wood-burner, and dining room to the rear facing the North Pennines. Three handpumps serve mostly local ales with guests from the north-east; also a keg line for modern craft ales. Hearty meals for meat-lovers; booking essential.
