This Ember Inn pub is situated next door to Chislehurst ponds. It is a large and imposing building but inside it is quite modern and painted in light colours. There are many different seating areas within the pub and food is a big part of its trade. The car park at the rear of the pub is pay and display, but the charge is refundable on the purchase of first drink. Curry night is Wednesday.

Even though this pub is food-orientated, casual drinkers are welcome. Like most Ember Inns, a "Cask Club" operates every Monday and Thursday whereby there is a £1/pint discount. The 20p/pint discount for CAMRA members operates on all other days.

Handy for the Green Chain Walk, one limb of which starts/ends at Prickend Pond.

Historic Interest

One of the oldest buildings in Chislehurst, the central part is Georgian whilst the northern end is much older. Until the 1980s, this contained huge oaken vats dating from the 17th C. This former inn was seemingly named after Queen Elizabeth I, this originally being called the King's Head. The original name for this detached part of Chislehurst was Prick End (or Pricking), which still survives in the name of Prickend Pond adjacent to the pub.
